What is amateur rocketry?

     If to try to answer the given question briefly amateur rocketry is a kind of technical creativity by which purpose construction of models of rockets is. Models of rockets can be made for their subsequent start, these are so-called working models of rockets, and also can be made for an exposition, these are bench models of rockets. Amateur rocketry, probably it is possible to name the close relative aircraft modelling.
     Amateur rocketry happens sports and simple amateur. At least, in Russia. In other countries, for example, in the USA exist set of communities rocket mans and even associations, such as National Association of Rocketry ( NAR - http://www.nar.org ) and Tripoli Rocketry Association ( TRA - http://www.tripoli.org ), that practically translates the status of this kind of activity in professional area.

When has arisen amateur rocketry?

     When and who actually had an idea to make model of a rocket it is not known. And here when has arisen official amateur rocketry in Russia it is known. Here that is written about it in book Rozhkov V. S. - " Sports models of rockets " publishing house DOSAAF of the USSR, 1984.
     "Start in the USSR on October, 4th, 1957 the first artificial satellite of the Earth, successes of a science and technics in an outer space exploration have wakened big and quite clear interest of schoolboys, youth to astronautics.There was a new kind of technical creativity - space-rocket modeling which includes designing and start of models of rockets. And last years has appeared and the rocketry sports, competitions on models of rockets began to be spent.
     For the first time in our country (USSR) the model with a powder rocket has been designed by A.Turkestanov from Tbilisi (now Georgia) . At competitions on May, 5th, 1924 in territory of a garden of Red Army and Fleet in Tbilisi this model aircraft has flown by 32 m.
     The big distribution rocket modeling has received in the end of 60th. Most strong its enthusiasts there were schoolboys of Krasnodar and Moscow regions. They were initiators of carrying out of the first competitions on models of rockets. In Krasnodar model rocketers (E. Booksh and others) in the end of 40th have taken a great interest in construction of models of planes with rocket engines. They understood, that development of rocket technics will by all means bring novelty in technical creativity, will waken interest to rocket modeling. The Kuban schoolboys the first have started to spend serious work above models - to build and start tiny rockets. In January, 1958 in Krasnodar has started model of a three-stage rocket with "satellite" onboard - a celluloid ball.
     In Moscow region the first began to build models of rockets young technics from Kostino town under direction of N.Kalinkin and P.Gorelov. In March, 1959 schoolboys Kostino's of station young technics have started three-stage model of a rocket SP-1 (the satellite of the pioneer - the first)."
